Gwen in Wonderland is a project I have worked on over two months, sparked by the idea of designing and creating my own League of Legends skin! The goal for this piece was to take an existing League champion and concept a new skin line, with both a consideration for how it would work within the context of the top-down view in the game, as well as ensuring the skin made sense for the personality of the champion.
After I spent some time establishing the theme 'Alice in Wonderland', I gathered reference, setting the tone of the aesthetics and began designing her kit, including her new character skin, deck of cards inspired scissors and the key acting as the needle in her ultimate ability. All elements in this project were polymodelled, keeping in mind target poly-counts and proportions from her original skins.
This project was also my first dive into using 3DCoat for the hand-painted textures, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I felt my knowledge and understanding of crafting my own textures increase and I have a new found confidence in texturing without a fully fledged concept!
After I textured I weight painted my mesh to work smoothly with the original Gwen run animation, just to see her in motion and get a glimpse of what she might look like in game. I rigged her to pose and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag.
Overall, I'm really proud of how this project turned out, and look to keep furthering my skills for the character pipeline!
